Our Foundation of Dhamma
At Pal Buddhist School, our unique approach cultivates wisdom, morality, and discipline in young people balanced with a grounded understanding of worldly knowledge. This is embodied in our school motto "Enlightenment through Wisdom, Morality and Discipline."
Why are these three pillars vital in the development of young people?
Wisdom
As the Buddha taught, the mark of wisdom is the ability to cut off (to discern). A young person without wisdom is like someone walking in the dark without a light. In contrast, those equipped with wisdom can navigate through darkness like one with a candle.
Discipline
The marks of discipline are restraint and mindfulness. Akin to a person taking his food, which they regard as medicine to provide sustenance and energy to their body, and should greed arise, he uses the reflection upon the loathsomeness of food to dissolve it. He talks but little, has his senses under control and eats only moderately.
Morality
The mark of morality is providing the basis for all wholesome Dhamma. A person devoid of morality is akin to infertile soil, which is incapable of sustaining or nurturing life.
These three pillars serve as the foundations for the wholesome development of young people. In our view, schools are akin to hospitals, with teachers providing education as a form of preventative mental care with the aim to alleviate mental afflictions and suffering. Our ultimate purpose is to nurture wholesome leaders, with a selfless purpose to light up the world.
