Life at Pal

At Pal Buddhist School, the nurturing of student wellbeing is at the heart of our educational philosophy. We prioritise creating a safe and supportive environment where students can flourish both academically and emotionally.

We prioritise safety, foster intrinsic motivation, and nurture personal growth.

Dhamma Classes

Our Dhamma classes are instrumental in teaching students to recognise and manage their inner desires, fostering emotional resilience. Mindfulness practices empower them to let go of attachments, promoting their personal growth. Additionally, these classes promote respect in the classroom, aligning with our strict NO BULLYING policy.

EXPECT M.O.R.E

We employ an innovative discipline system called "EXPECT M.O.R.E," emphasising Mindfulness, Organization, Respect, and Engagement. This system fosters a respectful and safe learning environment built upon the principles of wisdom, morality, and discipline. Students participate in EXPECT M.O.R.E sessions to address disruptions to the learning environment or beyond classrooms, and/or breaches of our school's code of conduct. This helps them understand the importance of responsible behaviour and consequences.

House Systems

Our students are sorted into one of four Houses, each representing a virtuous quality known as the "Brahmaviharas." These Houses are:

Stone Monkeys: Symbolising selfless joy (Mudita)

Snow Lions: Symbolising compassion (karuna)

Blazing Phoenix: Symbolising lovingkindness (metta)

Cloud Dragons: Symbolising equanimity (upekkha)

Students actively engage in academic and extra-curricular competitions within their respective House Groups, fostering a sense of unity and inclusivity throughout the school. To promote these virtuous qualities, students earn House Points for acts of kindness, academic and creative excellence, and selfless behaviours. At the end of each school year, the House with the highest number of House Points is awarded the prestigious House Cup, celebrating their collective achievements and virtues.

Achariya

We offer the support of Achariya, a chaplain accredited by the Buddhist Council of NSW, to students in need of extra guidance and someone to listen during troubled times. Bodhidasa, our chaplain, brings 20 years of Buddhist practice and spiritual wisdom to support the emotional and spiritual needs of our students.

Merit System

Our Merit System serves as a platform to recognize individual learning, growth, and personal commitment across diverse categories. These categories encompass day-to-day achievements, extra commitment in co-curricular activities, dedication and leadership at external events and special initiatives. Students are awarded badges as they collect points and advance forward in their tiers.
