A Day in the Life of a Pal Student

Our Engaging, Nurturing and Inclusive School Culture

We are creating a primary school culture like no other in the world - a community where every member works together to help each other develop wisdom, morality, skills and intelligence.

Watch this video from Kelly and Morrison to learn more:

A Training Ground for Morality

We recognise the value of ancient tradition and timeless humanistic values. We incorporate the Buddhist philosophy into everyday teaching to nurture moral and virtuous behaviour and good character in our students.

Inspired by the Buddha’s Noble Eightfold Path, our primary school believes in imparting academic knowledge and cultivating the whole individual through wisdom, morality and diligence.

Our students learn these values by action. They engage actively in activities that challenge their capabilities, develop their leadership qualities and instil selflessness joy.

Watch this video from our principal to learn how our school is a training ground for morality:

Jewel in the Jar

Jewel in the Jar helps us instil in our primary students the values of respect, generosity, loving kindness and selfless joy.

Students are awarded for helping others, achieving academic and creative excellence and displaying selfless behaviours.

When students earn jewels, they benefit the entire class with their fantastic behaviours.

In the words of our student Jocelyn:

"What is most valuable about the Jewel in the Jar is that it encourages me to accept my responsibilities, to think about how my actions and words impact others, and to set high expectations for myself."

Watch this video from our primary students to learn more about Jewel in the Jar:

Service Learning

Our primary school students actively contribute to the school every week through Service Learning.

Students help out with various tasks around the school in order to understand the value of helping others, develop diligence and gain skills they can use outside the school environment.

Watch this video by our student Tiarni to discover the benefits of Service Learning:

Reflection

We encourage our students to have high expectations for themselves and instil in them a sense of responsibility from an early age.

Our students participate in reflection when they act or speak in manners that violate our school's moral code of conduct.

Reflection sessions encourage students to consider how their actions and words impact themselves and the people around them.

Exploring Spirituality

We are a school of scientific methodology and spirituality. We encourage our students to be mindful, and to seek to understand both knowledge in the outer world and the inner mind.

We are not a religious school in the sense that we hold to any ideas on the basis of pure faith and mere dogma, or in the sense that we use faith as a trump-card to reason.

Rather we are a school of science in its truest sense: we aim to foster in our students a love of the pursuit of truth in all domains, the material and the spiritual, the discovered as well as the undiscovered.

Watch this video from our principal to learn more:

Pal's Integrated Primary Curriculum

In order for students to make meaningful connections between concepts, to transfer skills across domains and to develop truly creative thinking, it is essential that students see that the boundaries between Key Learning Areas are less substantial than they may have thought.

At Pal Primary we adopt an integrated model of curriculum that seeks to make explicit what is inherent in the NSW curriculum. We employ four Macro-Themes across the entire school as laid out below. This enables a clear focus for the learning and potential for shared inquiry across classes.

All four Macro-themes employ the learning across the curriculum priorities that aim at fostering literacy and numeracy, critical thinking and appreciation of ethical issues.

All NSW Key Learning Areas are addressed as laid out in the mandated documents, though the way in which we integrate content around themes and provocations is unique. Students learn English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography etc. but based around key inquiry themes rather than arbitrary units as one finds in most schools.

Programs for Academic Excellence at Pal Primary

Pal Primary incorporates a wide range of academic programs to help students develop wisdom and intelligence. These programs work synergistically with the integrated curriculum to foster academic excellence.

Readers Assemble

Readers Assemble is a program that encourages students to read, discuss, analyse and review books with their peers and teachers.

Readers Assemble helps students expand their knowledge base, build their vocabulary, improve their critical thinking and communication skills, and foster a love for reading.

Enhancing Literacy and Numeracy

Our teachers utilise small group teaching to  help students develop their literacy and numeracy skills.

Each session, students participate in activities that focus on improving specific literacy or numeracy areas.

Examples of activities include journal writing and sentence extension.

Language Learning

The benefits of learning a new language are endless. Students at Pal Primary school are given the opportunity to learn about different cultures and traditions through mastering languages.

1st in NAPLAN for the Fairfield Region

The NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It tests the types of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. The tests cover skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. The assessments are undertaken every year in the second full week in May.

We are incredibly proud of our Pal student and staff community for helping Pal Buddhist School rank 1st for the Fairfield City Region in 2019.

The Right Action - Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA)

Our school has a strong tradition of the arts and it is one of the many ways we encourage diligence, selfless joy and the pursuit of excellence in our students. CAPA helps our students become energetic and confident while renouncing their fears and limiting beliefs.

Watch this video to learn more about the benefits of CAPA:

The Right Livelihood - School-wide Cooking Competition

The Right Livelihood is a cooking program that helps students develop four values: accountability, responsibility, respect and integrity. It is just one of the ways we help our students connect with their culture, develop right thinking and become wholesome people.

Watch this video from Pal parents and friends to learn more about the value of The Right Livelihood:

The Right Speech - School-wide Public Speaking Competition

We believe all our students can become great leaders capable of inspiring others. The Right Speech helps our students develop the wisdom and resilience to articulate their vision in an engaging manner and build their communication skills.
