Student Representative Council (SRC)

This school leadership team is a student elected group that represents the student voice, are ambassadors of the school internally and to the wide public, organises events that encourage school spirit and development of the ethos, and has opportunities to develop their leadership, communication, teamwork and organisational, and strategic thinking skills.

SRC Initiatives include:

Shave4Vesak

Shave4Vesak is a Pal Buddhist School SRC initiative where students, staff, teachers and parents are encouraged to detach themselves from their sensual desire for external beauty by wholesomely shaving their head.

Shave4Vesak encourages us to conquer our fears and take the first step to cutting off our greed, hatred and delusion. The shaving of hair symbolises letting go of sensual desire and ego, and embracing the realisation that physical beauty is not what defines us as a people. Rather, it is our internal nature that radiates foremost.

Shavers raise money to help support the growth of education at Pal Buddhist School, and donate their hair to those born without.

Through 2020 and 2021, the SRC raised over $52000 for the school through Shave4Vesak's fundraising campaign.

Dust and Shine

Dust and Shine is a whole school cleaning initiative that allows students to develop life skills and demonstrate generosity and kindness. Students spend their time cleaning their school in order to create a greater learning environment for all.

Dust and Shine is not only a physical cleaning activity, but rather an activity that cleans the mind by reducing ego and hindrances that prevent students from being selfless.

Gift of Giving

The SRC works together with the Pal community to raise funds for worthy causes around the world. In 2021, the SRC raised over $3250 for the Buddha Gyaan Niketan Residential School, a non-profit orphanage school in Bodhgaya, India.

Funds raised will help the orphanage school buy essential supplies such as food and books, and pay wages to their teachers. There is no limit to the amount of good our community can achieve when we work together for wholesome causes.
